There are countless locations across the country that are creepy and downright bone-chilling. The best, and by best we mean the scariest, haunted houses in the US are worth the drive in order to experience the horror first hand.

1. Asylum 49

Located in a defunct medical building that has served as an asylum, hospital, and nursing home before its doors were closed to patients permanently. Employees reported aggressive spirits and unexplainable shadow resembling spirits. This location is not for the faint of heart. Prepare to be grabbed, possibly strapped down to a hospital bed, and covered in fake gore.

2. Azra Chamber of Horrors

Technology makes this haunted house stand out against the crowd. They are a newer attraction that has been quickly been gaining national attention. Azra has top-notch animatronics, projection screens, fire performers, tarot card readers, and even food trucks for the famished survivors of the haunted house.

3. Dark Woods Haunted Attraction

Dark Woods offers two attractions at one location for twice the scare power. Get spooked inside and outside as the unknown follow you throughout the dark, scary woods. 3D effects have made this location a must-see. The Haunted Carnival will be a completely unique experience that might change the way we see the county fair.

4. Headless Horseman

There’s a lot going on at this award-winning haunted house with 10 attractions, multiple cafes, and gift shops. Located in the Hudson Valley where hauntings have become legend over hundreds of years. There are hayrides and a corn maze, but don’t bring the kids unless it is during their children’s days.

5. Requiem Haunted House

Over 13,000- square feet of intricate indoor themed horror await guests. Walking shoes are a must. Three floors are ready to be explored at their 100-year-old building. Only the brave will be willing to try their Coffin Ride that is not recommended for the squeamish.

6. Nightfall at Old Tucson

Located in a legitimately haunted western town, Nightfall has been scaring the boots off of patrons since 1990. They feature four live shows and four attractions with scare ratings for each area.

7. House of Torment

Begin by surviving the zombie apocalypse at the Rise of the Dead before reliving childhood fears by the Clown, then ending with the ultimate nightmare at Darkest Dreams. Each area is scarier than the last. More attractions include mini escape rooms and a tavern where guests can refresh themselves with a beer or cocktail.
