Spotlight for Charlotte, NC

Located along the Southeast Region of the United States, North Carolina's largest city, Charlotte, is situated comfortably between the Atlantic Ocean and the Appalachian Mountains. Nicknamed the Queen City, Charlotte was named after the German Princess Charlotte of Mecklenburg.
The city is commonly praised in the media for many of its distinct qualities; in recent years, Charlotte has been ranked as: the number one "Best Place to Live in America" by relocate-America.com, the fourth best "Walking City" by Prevention Magazine, and one of the "Five Cities with Big Outdoor Appeal" by Self Magazine. As such, it's no wonder that Charlotte is a year-round destination that so many tourists enjoy. One of the sites that is an integral part of Charlotte's historical culture is called the Mint Museum of Craft + Design. It is an establishment that honors the rich artistic qualities of the city's craft and design in glass, metal, wood, and clay, in both furniture and jewelry. It has over 2,500 pieces and is easily the top-raked craft museums in the entire country. A well-known Charlotte resident, Linda Brown, described the contents of the museum as "complex and eclectic, [featuring] everything from fine jewelry to fiber arts, from wacky, satirical, narrative ceramic sculpture...to product design." It was temporarily closed in February of 2010 to move locations, but it is planned to reopen in October of 2010 and will almost double in size. Recently opening on May 11, 2010, the NASCAR Hall of Fame is a newer attraction to Charlotte that is incredibly unique. The establishment honors accomplished NASCAR drivers, notable chief crews and owners, and many other individuals that have made amazing contributions to the sport. Selecting Charlotte as the home for this attraction was welcomed by the city because it not only increased tourism, but it also provided hundreds of jobs there, as a 390,000 square foot facility was erected that houses both the Hall of Fame offices and the NASCAR's licensing division. Charlotte's culture, beauty, and unique attractions really make this a destination that continues to gain greater acclaim and popularity. Its prime location and highly-desireable features attract different types of visitors from around the country. Charlotte definitely lives up to its nickname as the Queen City!
